Christmas Fun at Downtown Summerlin

Ah, Christmas in Summerlin.  An incredible experience for the entire family and Downtown Summerlin is the place you can find it.

This year all the wonderful parts of the holidays are back in Downtown Summerlin, along with 2 new ones.

There is the popular outdoor ice-skating rink on the lawn named the “Rock Rink”, which is an 8,000 square foot real-ice skating rink located near The Pavilion. Skate rentals start at $16 and all ages are welcome. Hours vary, and appointments are required, so check the website for details https://summerlin.com/event/rock-rink/

Plus Downtown Summerlin’s festive holiday train runs from November 19-January 7. Rides are $4 per person (adults and kids).

The Holiday Parade returns after a one-year hiatus.  You can see the parade every Friday and Saturday evening at 6 p.m. from November 19 through December 18. This free event runs along Park Centre Drive and includes a new Nutcracker-inspired float this year. The parade is complete with lively holiday music, snow, dancers and of course, The most famous jolly man, Santa.

Of course, there is Santa Claus’ Chalet, again this year, located in the Macy’s Promenade. It’s open daily through December 24 for photos with people, and Santa offers photos with pets on Tuesdays through December 21 between 7 and 9 p.m. Kids can drop off letters to Santa and for every letter received, Downtown Summerlin will donate $1 to Goodie Two Shoes.

This year, one of the added attractions — at Las Vegas Ballpark, visit Enchant, a Christmas light maze and village that brings its world of festive wonder to Las Vegas for the first time from now until January 2.

Enchant Christmas isn’t just a magical event, it’s a magical opportunity. The Summerlin Council Patriotic Parade

The Patriotic Parade that has been held in Summerlin is a time-honored tradition for July 4th festivities in Las Vegas for 26 years. And this year it’s back! There are plans in the works to deliver another outstanding parade day experience by putting together a unique celebration to meet the extraordinary times we’re in.

For the 27th year, you are invited to be a part of a reimagined celebration of our country’s big day – America’s Birthday Party Parade. A show like no other, this traveling party will feature eye-catching parade floats, towering balloons, and captivating performances that have become 4th of July traditions in Summerlin. No grandstands or announcer booths this year; just a 30-minute, entertainment-packed community showcase with all the pageantry and spirit you’ve come to expect.

Entries will include professionally decorated parade floats with larger-than-life displays of birthday cakes, party hats, an undersea birthday jubilee and other dazzling patriotic celebrations; giant inflatable balloons including a 25-foot birthday cake, a 30-foot American flag and 25-foot Uncle Sam Hat; exciting performances by the Drumbots, Desert Angels gospel choir, the West Las Vegas Arts Center performance ensemble, Danza del Carrizo Native American dancers, Swing It Sisters, Guan Strong lion dancers, stilt walkers and a live DJ spinning beats through the streets.  There will also be appearances by beloved cartoon characters, community mascots, princesses and superheroes. And the parade route will be lined end-to-end with American flags

The parade is free and open to the public. Spectators are asked to follow the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention COVID-19 guidance for mask-wearing, social distancing and hand washing. Everyone is encouraged to arrive early, wear sunscreen and bring water and hand sanitizer.

International Day Of Yoga

Do you enjoy Yoga?  It seems there has been a lot of interest in yoga these days, especially during the pandemic when many people started using yoga as a way to de-stress and keep themselves in shape.

On June 21, 2021, head to the lawn at Downtown Summerlin to celebrate the International Day of Yoga.  Activates take place 7:30 – 8:30. Come and learn why so many people around the world are so into it. Be sure to bring your friends, family, yoga mat (or beach towel), and join the TruTribe for an evening of Vin/Yin with Jessica Johns & KateLynn Davenport featuring a live DJ, light refreshments, and photo ops!

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness. Today it is practiced in various forms around the world and continues to grow in popularity. Recognizing its universal appeal, on 11 December 2014, the United Nations proclaimed 21of June as the International Day of Yoga. The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga.  Yoga is more than a physical activity. In the words of one of its most famous practitioners, the late B. K. S. Iyengar, “Yoga cultivates the ways of maintaining a balanced attitude in day-to-day life and endows skill in the performance of one’s actions.”

Redpoint and Redpoint Square– the last frontier?

Summerlin, located on the west side of the Las Vegas Valley is developing the last remaining land in the master-plan.  The two villages are called Redpoint Village and the second is Redpoint Square.

The two villages offer an interesting and diverse mix of residential homes, townhomes, mixed-use office and retail developments and of course lots of parks, open space and trails – something Summerlin is known for.  Did you know that Summerlin ranked number 3 as the top selling master-plan in the country?

Redpoint Village will be located along the northern border of Far Hills Drive, and is a key gateway into Summerlin West, with eight new single-family neighborhoods from top Summerlin homebuilders, including Woodside, Toll Brothers, Taylor Morrison (formerly William Lyons Homes), Lennar, Pardee and Pulte.

Redpoint Square

Travel a bit north of Redpoint is Redpoint Square, featuring a mixture of single family attached and detached homes from builders including Richmond American Homes, KB Homes, Toll Brothers, Taylor Morrison, Lennar and Woodside.

Redpoint Square, is beginning to take shape with its first neighborhood. now selling, Moro Rock by Richmond American Homes.  There are two duet town home models priced from the high $200,000s.  Redpoint Square will be suited for first-time buyers, millennials, families, executives, and retirees.  Luxury home living opportunities will be available too.

inside model home

According to Danielle Bisterfeldt, vice president of marketing for Summerlin, Summerlin West is the next chapter in the community’s 30-year history as one of the country’s premier and top-selling master plans.

Bisterfeldt stated “Situated on elevated topography overlooking the valley, the Summerlin West area boasts an elevation that is more than 4,550 feet above sea level at its highest point, creating an abundance of vantage points and vistas. Summerlin’s higher elevations, which deliver temperatures up to 5 degrees cooler than the Strip, support a greater variety of naturally occurring vegetation, a characteristic indicative of the community given its location along the valley’s elevated western rim.”

Construction at Redpoint Square

“Perhaps the greatest distinction of Summerlin West, with Redpoint and Redpoint Square, will be its greater diversity of home products that will make the area truly multigenerational,” she said. “Summerlin West will boast a greater volume of smaller and attached home products that encourage a more experiential lifestyle and are well-suited for first-time homebuyers, millennials and retirees who prefer smaller-footprint living. At the same time, Summerlin West will feature many single-family neighborhoods in a variety of sizes and price points, along with estates and luxury living opportunities. The goal is to create a truly diverse region of the community that will resonate with a wide variety of homebuyers seeking a 21st-century lifestyle.”

This year Summerlin is marking its 30th anniversary and it offers so many amenities. They include more than 250 parks of all sizes; resident-exclusive community centers, pools and events; 150-plus miles of interconnected trails; 10 golf courses; 26 public, private and charter schools; a public library and performing arts center; Summerlin Hospital Medical Center; houses of worship representing a dozen different faiths; office parks; and neighborhood shopping centers. Downtown Summerlin offers fashion, dining, entertainment, Red Rock Resort, office towers and the City National Arena, which is the Vegas Golden Knights practice facility. The Las Vegas Ballpark is a world-class Triple-A baseball stadium and home of the Las Vegas Aviators.

Summerlin housing market is open for business

Well here we are at the unofficial start of summer – Memorial Day weekend just passed, and we are trying to get back to some kind of normalcy.  Many families had  barbecues which have always been a huge Memorial Day Tradition; however, this year they probably included less guests than in years past – probably just immediate family. I was fortunate enough to take my boat out this weekend – just with my family.

Another Memorial Day tradition is looking for new houses and one thing that is for sure the master-planned community of Summerlin is ready.  Some of the nation’s top homebuilders have contributed to making Summerlin what it is today – The top selling master-planned community west of the Mississippi.

The homebuilders have all put in place social distancing guidelines and cleaning after each viewing.  As a Realtor I do the same with the homes I show for sale.  We at the Jeff Howard Group show by appointment only and follow social distancing protocols.  Besides that, we all wear masks, gloves and booties inside the home being shown, and sanitize our hands regularly.  If you would like a virtual tour prior to looking at a home in person, I will gladly go and film a virtual tour and concentrate on specific interests you might have. I go the extra mile for my clients, the home builders also have virtual tours you can look at.

When you decide on your forever home, I can set up virtual meetings with lenders,  inspectors, escrow and anyone else we need to communicate with so you are not coming into personal contact with any more people than you want to. Meetings can be done via Zoom or another video platform, signing can be electronic. My point is, we can do everything in a way that makes you feel comfortable and safe. After all I want to be your Realtor for life… a long healthy life!
